The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority Act, 2001 CAP. 414, section 30, established the EWURA Consumer Consultative Council (EWURA CCC). The Council’s primary duties include representing the interests of consumers, In addition to receiving and sharing information on topics of consumer interest, forming and consulting with sectoral, local, and regional consumer committees speaking with important stakeholders. Through public awareness, networking, advocacy, education, and capacity building, the mission statement aims to advance and defend the rights and interests of customers of regulated energy and water services. The organization’s vision is to be a well-run, efficient champion that works to advance and defend the rights of customers of regulated energy and water services. The roles of the Council conferred under section 31(1) of the Act are: representing the interests of consumers by making submissions to, providing views and information to and consulting with the Authority, Minister, and sector Ministers; receiving and disseminating information and views on matters of interest to consumers of regulated goods and services; establishing regional and sector consumer committees and consult with them; consulting with industry, Government and other consumer groups on matters of interests to consumers of regulated goods and services; and establishing local and sector consumer committees and consult with them.
