Openings at I&M Bank Tanzania Limited shifted offices to Investment House, Tanzaniatta Avenue, and formally established as a financial institution under the Banking Act. On April 1, 1996, I&M formally became a commercial bank in response to modifications in Central Bank of Tanzania regulations. Moving to a more contemporary location on Koinange Street accompanied this modification. In 1999, I&M was undergoing a significant reorganization to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the “I&M” name. A minor but significant change—a new logo—was introduced to start the adjustments. This was done to show how I&M changed from being a finance company to a commercial bank. The renowned I&M Bank House on 2nd Ngong Avenue in Nairobi, Tanzania, now houses I&M’s headquarters. This modern, spacious building was designed and built to fulfill the needs of our customers. In January 2010, I&M Bank announced its entry into commercial banking in Tanzania with the acquisition of a majority stake in CF Union Bank Ltd (CFUB). Also participating in the equity buy-out was PROPARCO, a French Development Financial Institution, and an existing shareholder of I&M Bank.
