With 13 founding members, the Aqua-Farms Organization (AFO Tanzania Vacancy) was established in 2016 and formally registered in July 2017 under NGO Act No. 24 of 2002 of the United Republic of Tanzania. Their goal is to guarantee food security and development through sustainable aquaculture and restored fisheries. Additionally, AFO has pledged to help achieve the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 13. Climate Action; 14. Life Below Water; 2. Zero Hunger; 3. Good Health and Well-Being; and 1. No Poverty. AFO aspires to be a premier organization in sustainable aquaculture and community-based conservation for the restoration of aquatic resources. Through research, workshops, training, and partnership in aquaculture and fisheries, we improve the community’s access to food and generate money. We are open source. We work in a transparent and collaborative way to share our values, mission approach and success stories and failures from what we learn. We work in diverse and inclusive teams where all members have a voice and influence. We have high standards of correct information and approach and aren’t afraid to be self-critical or externally criticized. If something doesn’t work, we change our approach until we’re on the right course.
