on order to cultivate sugar cane on the nucleus estate and produce sugar in Makurunge, Bagamoyo District, the Bakhresa Group’s Bagamoyo Sugar Ltd. green field project was created on December 1, 2016, at the Tanzanian government’s request. In addition to achieving self-sufficiency and lowering reliance on sugar imports, the project’s primary goal is to produce excess sugar for export. This project is being carried out at this size for the first time in Tanzania. Thyssenkrupp India Pvt Ltd, a German business with headquarters in India, supplies the sugar mill, and Netafim, an Israeli company, provides cutting-edge digital farm technology to support irrigation on the farm. The project is being implemented in accordance with schedule to start commercial production by mid-2022. In phase 1 of the project, it is estimated to produce about 30,000 tonnes of sugar. As per the Group’s vision of supporting the Tanzanian community, this project in the village of Makurunge is generating employment opportunities for thousands of unemployed youth.
