More than 300 Tanzanian businesspeople took the initiative to start Akiba Commercial Bank Plc (ACB) in August 1997 after being motivated to enter the microfinance industry by their ethical and financial concern for the welfare of millions of Tanzanians. These founding members were united by their fervent belief that Akiba Commercial Bank Vacancy would provide them with the means to reach and improve the lives of those who were previously unbanked and commercially unwell throughout the nation. As a Tanzanian-owned commercial bank that was dedicated to serving its target population, the bank’s core function was to assist the establishment of new Tanzanian enterprises by offering financial services at all levels.
