On June 18, 1998, the company was registered as a general insurance company under Insurance Act No. 18 of 1996. The head office may be found at Bains Avenue, Msasani Peninsular, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on the fourth floor of the Masaki Ikon Building. A subsidiary of The Heritage Insurance Kenya Limited, which owns 60% of the company, is The Heritage Insurance Company Limited. MAC Group owns the remaining 40% of the company and is a local shareholder. The company complies with the requirement that one-third of its directors be Tanzanians, as stipulated in section 8 of the Insurance Act No. 18 of 1996 and its modifications of 2019. The Heritage Limited Tanzania is controlled by The Heritage Insurance Company Kenya Limited, incorporated in Kenya, which owns 60% of the Company, the other 40% is owned by MAC group incorporated in Tanzania. The ultimate parent company is The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited which owns Heritage Kenya through Liberty Kenya Holding.
